My online dating experience- part 5

Hi guys,

here is my newest installment in researching, and analysing, online dating. Have fun!

If you remember from my previous blogs, the guys you meent online fall into 3 categories:

The Mailers, The Texters & The Meeters.

Well obviously, this is the part where I describe The Meeters. Meeters are the guys who:

a) ask for your number;
b) text for a few days;
c) suggest MEETING- this is what meeting someone online should lead to! This is the whole point!

Guys, if we give you our number, we do not just want to text and call. We want to meet you, spend some time together. If it goes well, move onto a second date and so on.

Why is it so hard for you to take it to the meeting?

My favourite meet up so far was with Tom.Here is what happened:

I met Tom on the site 3 weeks ago. Obviously, we were Texters at first. In fact, I did not have much hopes for this one- he expected me to reply to his long messages with even longer messages, something I couldn't be bothered to do.

After a couple of my “yes” and “no” text replies, he texted saying he probably won’t be meeting me as I was not his type.

I left it at that- I was being spoilt for choice on the site, so one fish that got away didn’t matter- but a few days later he got back in touch, asking to see me. My point is: if they like you, they won’t let you get away! (or they are plain desperate :) )

The date with the Meeter:

The venue:

Ruby Blue originally (cancelled due to £5 entry fee) so instead Slug & lettuce.We met at the Leicester Square. I came second so my date, Tom, was already waiting by the nearby casino.

The first impressions were good. A tall, impressive Elvis Presley look-alike in a long, flowing jacket. He could have easily been my cousin, he had very similar looks to my family‘s.

We awkwardly kissed, me still smarting from his comments that I probably wouldn’t be his type anyway, and went to Ruby Blue. As there was an entry fee to be paid, we went to Slug & Lettuce instead.

Surprisingly, our conversation flowed freely. We really had a nice time, despite the settings of Slug & Lettuce. He kept saying I should have come to Clapham where he knew the best places to visit. This is how he put it:

“If you came to Clapham, I would have taken you for a meal, followed by drinks in a lovely bar. The fact that we are sat at Slug & Lettuce proves my point.”

I loved that. This guy had an excellent sense of humour!

As I ordered a ’back up’ of friends coming to join us later in case the date was boring, I got a phone call an hour early from them, saying they were on their way. But we had such a great time, I told them not to come. Too late, they were close to the bar by then- se we legged it to another place! I did feel terrible about it, but my date was not happy I had friends joining us :) .

Strolling through Soho, we spotted a nice looking, blackened bar. Tom suggested we went it. While he was getting the drinks, I went upstairs to find somewhere to sit. I found two empty seats, but also couples kissing and hugging- this was a gay bar. I went downstairs to tell Tom, but he knew by then- the shirtless, cute barman already hit on him.

We went upstairs and sat down. As it was full of men and no girls, I felt myself instantly relax. There was no one staring at me, though Tom got some longing looks- with his tall frame and cute face, he stuck out like a sore thumb.

While I settled into the couch comfortably and watched the scene before me, Tom sat there with his legs crossed in front of him, like a lady, and put his arm around me to show the guys he was with me. As it was our first date, I would not let him do that so early on, but he needed some sense of normality in that place. I have had fun!

So, girls, if you want a night out without any hassle, go to the gay bar. What a relaxing night it was!
